FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — It’s not necessarily a lack of sleep, but the combination of being a night owl and daytime drowsiness, that’s to blame for cranky teenagers.
That’s according to a new study published in the journal Pediatrics, which reiterates the need for later school start times.
Experts say sleep time misalignment and early school start times, may contribute to poor control of emotions, and risky behaviors.
Teens naturally prefer to be night owls, and often have trouble falling fully asleep before 11:00 P.M.
The American Academy of Pediatrics advises schools start no earlier than 8:30 A.M.
