Fresno County Sheriff’s Deputy Killed In Accidental Shooting

(KMJ ) – Fresno County Sheriff’s Office confirms one of its deputy has died in what’s being described as an accidental shooting.

The Deputy had responded to an incident near Clinton and Winery just before 4 p.m. Monday, when the weapon went off.  Now an investigation is underway as to how that gun accidentally discharged.

Here is what the Department released to the media via Fresno County Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Tony Botti:

Early Monday evening, one of our deputies passed away at a local hospital. He sustained a life-threatening wound after being accidentally shot. The incident occurred around 3:45 pm on Monday while on duty at a business park near the intersection of Clinton and Winery Avenues in Fresno. After being shot, the deputy was immediately rushed to the hospital. Fresno County Sheriffs detectives are investigating this incident to determine how the gun was accidentally discharged.

Sheriff Margaret Mims will address the media on Tuesday with more personal details about our deputy and preliminary information on the investigation.
