FRESNO (KMJ) — A pause in the search effort at Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Park – for a hiker who hasn’t been in contact for almost two weeks.
Robert ‘Bob’ Woodie was last heard of on October 15th when he electronically ‘checked in’ – near Barret Lakes. The 74 year old’s actions since then are a mystery to those looking for him.
“There have been cases where people have survived for a fair bit of time and we always hold out hope that that can be the case here”, reveals the park’s Zach Behrens.
Now the ongoing wet weather forecast to start Thursday and continue for the rest of the week, has forced a hold on their efforts.
“What we can do at this point, because no one can be out there and it’ll be too dangerous to have the helicopters flying, we take all the data that we’ve been getting from the search teams on the ground and from the helicopters and we start to assess that data, and evaluate, and plan for our next steps”.
There is an ongoing appeal to who have been in the area recently to contact officials at Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Park to help them mark off specific areas.
“Regardless of if they saw Mr. Woodie or not, we want to hear from them because information on where he wasn’t at a certain time is very helpful as well”.
The number to call is 559-565-3117.
