FRESNO (KMJ) — A man has died after an early morning collision on Fresno’s Shaw Avenue.
Officers say he was struck and killed as he was walking in the roadway just before 6am Friday morning, but confirm that the driver will not be cited for his actions leading to the incident.
“He’s going to be taken Downtown for a consent blood draw which we do on fatals. He is suspended so he could be cited for that but so far as the violation in the roadway he won’t be cited for that”, says Fresno Police Lieutenant Joe Gomez.
“The pedestrian is at fault here”
He adds that it’s unlikely the victim was seen due to the lack of light at that time of the morning.
“You got to use the crosswalk, you got to use the traffic signal to cross”.
The incident marks the 26th fatal accident in the City of Fresno, with 14 of those involving pedestrians struck by vehicles.
