FRESNO (KMJ) – The active search for a missing man in Yosemite has ceased.
74 year old Peter Jackson is believed to have gone on a day hike from his campsite at White Wolf Campground and never returned.
It is unknown when he left or which directions he headed.
“Unfortunately, we have not been able to locate Mr. Jackson, we’ve had an active search effort with search dogs, airplanes, a lot of folks on the trail. We have not found him.” – Scott Gediman, Yosemite National Park Spokesperson.
Due to a lack of new clues, and incoming inclement weather the Jackson search has been placed in a “limited continuous mode” as of October 2, 2016. This means that active searching in the field has ceased, however any clues that are developed will be followed up on by investigators or search teams depending on the type of information gathered.
Jackson had texted his son on 9/17/16 saying he was on his way to Yosemite. His vehicle was found at White Wolf Campground, site #58, and his site was paid for until 9/21/16.
Peter Jackson is a 74-year-old white male, with slender build, 5 ft. 10 in, 155 lbs., with blue eyes, gray hair and a beard. He is in excellent physical condition with no medical concerns. He has a royal blue Outdoor Products daypack. A description of other gear and clothing is not available.
