FRESNO (KMJ) — Armed officers are now on guard inside the lobbies of Fresno County Jail.
It comes as two Fresno County Correctional Officers continue to recover after being shot inside the Downtown Fresno site Saturday morning.
Officer Juanita Davila is listed in critical, but stable condition. Her colleague Toamalama Scanlan is listed in critical condition.
“It is a very emotional issue, because this is a family”, says Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims. “So we care deeply about each other. We understand that what we do has risks.
“I’m very proud of the way our personnel responded, running towards danger even when they knew shots were fired”.
Gang member and parolee Thong Vang was taken into custody not long after the shooting.
The 37-year old now faces felony charges of attempted murder, being a felon in possession of a gun, and bringing drugs into a jail.
