SAN DIEGO (KMJ) – One San Diego police officer is dead, and another is injured after the two were shot during a traffic stop Thursday night.  The injured officer is expected to survive after undergoing surgery, according to San Diego Police.

SDPD Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman says the investigation is ongoing, so they don’t have enough information to know if this was another ambush shooting – as the recent police shootings in Dallas and Baton Rouge were.  Zimmerman says that soon after the cops reported they were making the stop, they called for backup.

The suspect is in custody.  He is a Hispanic male being treated at a hospital after being shot by the officers.

The police officers have not been identified.  The deceased cop leaves behind a wife and two children.
