VISALIA (KMJ) — Visalia is set to be the first city in California to hold the ‘Rural Pride’ event.

The gathering is to highlight the needs of the LGBT community who work in agriculture, and help bring voices to the discussion of what life is like for those who live in rural locations.

Housing, education, healthcare, and youth empowerment, are all set to be on the agenda. It’s free and open to the public.

Previous summits have been held in North Carolina, West Virginia, Nebraska, and Louisiana; the most westerly site so far has been the City of Dallas in Texas.

The Rural Pride event is hosted by the US Department of Agriculture, the National Center for Lesbian Rights, and the True Colors Fund.

The event in the Central Valley will be held in Visalia’s Convention Center on Thursday July 21st. It starts at 9am and the link to register can be found clicking here.
