FRESNO (KMJ) — The official announcement over who Donald Trump will pick as his running mate is due to take place Friday morning.
But the question remains: will it be a lean towards Newt Gingrich, or will the choice be made to go for Mike Pence? Those two names considered to be the final pair in the running by Chair of Fresno County Republican Party Fred Vanderhoof.
“I think either one of them will do an excellent job”.
“Newt Gingrich has a lot of experience. His Contract With America in 1994 was a very wise thing to do. It brought in many Republicans into Congress for the first time, for many years, when he did that. He’s someone who understands strategy and I think he’d be excellent”.
However, a number of news outlets have already announced Governor of Indiana Mike Pence as the nominee – a name Vanderhoof is also in support of.
“Mike Pence is also a great pick as a Governor of Indiana”, continues Vanderhoof. “Former Congressman. He’s very safe, I guess you’d say. He would help [in] that part of the country”.
He adds that those who vote for Donald Trump because they want someone who will shake things up, but getting someone with experience with getting bills through is what he’s looking for.
“Donald Trump being from the outside, he’s not a legislator or Governor”.
CBS News has learned that Mike Pence will be picked as the presumptive Republican nominees’ running mate, but the formal reveal is scheduled to take place at 8am PDT.
