Dog Attack May Have Led to Drowning

simonian-search FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – An autopsy shows that 74-year-old Robert Simonian suffered wounds consistent with dog bites before he drowned in a canal on July 4th in West Fresno.

Police believe it’s possible that Simonian was attacked by a dog or group of dogs, and that caused him to fall into the water as he walked along the canal bank.

Homicide detectives are asking for anyone who was seen or come into contact witha  dog or group of dogs in the area of W. Barstow Ave. between N. Biola and N. Dickenson Aves. or W. Bullard Ave. between N. Biola and N. Dickenson Ave. to give them a call at the FSO Dispatch Center at (559) 600-3111.

On Monday, July 4th, Simonian left his home to go for a walk as a part of his hiking training exercise.  He did not return home and when relatives could not reach him by cell phone, they reported him missing.  Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies pulled his body from the canal on July 5th.
