HANFORD (KMJ) — Remains discovered in Kings County have been confirmed as those of Debbie Hawk.
The mother of three went missing in 2006 – in 2009 her husband Dave Hawk was sentenced to life without parole for her murder – and on Monday, ten years after her initial disappearance, her remains were discovered outside Stratford in Kings County.
“The area that was unearthed was an area that had not been farmed for many many years”, says Kings County Sheriff Dave Robinson. “It was in an area that would have been very difficult to just get to or find so we believe that Dave Hawk placed them in that area in an effort to conceal these remains for many many many years”.
Local farm workers were the first to find her, and dental remains recovered at the scene confirmed that it was what was left of Debbie Hawk. Her remains are currently with the DA’s office, and it’ll be some time before the exact cause of death is determined.
The District Attorney’s Office states that it doesn’t affect the conviction of her husband Dave Hawk. He was charged with murder after her disappearance, and is currently facing life without parole.
“Justice was served in 2009”, adds Sheriff Robinson. “He’s where he needs to be”.
The Sheriff’s Office added that the land where the remains were found were being farmed since 2010, but between 2006 and 2010 they were left unused.
“We’ll be working with the District Attorney’s office to continue to see if there’s any evidence we have out there at that new scene”, says Hanford Police Captain Karl Anderson, “that will lead more information to [determine] what happened to Debbie”.
