Chukchansi Casino One Step Closer to Reopening

(KMJ) – The Chukchansi Gold Resort and Casino is one more step closer to re-opening. Monday, the National Indian Gaming Commission approved plans to re-open the casino – with some conditions.

The Coarsegold site closed in October of 2014 following missed audits and a power struggle between competing factions. That resulted in a physical confrontation on the casino grounds.

As part of the agreement announced Monday, the tribe will be issued a fine of $19.8 million dollars. But It will only pay a portion of that fine, for now. They negotiated their payback amount down to about $500,000. The remaining 19 million would be waived if the casino completes its audits in a timely manner and remains safe for the public for its first three years back open.

It’s now in the hands of a Federal Judge to sign the order, lifting the closure. And a date has yet to be set for Chukchansi’s reopening.
