Madera County Needs Search And Rescue Volunteers

MADERA (KMJ) — Would you like to save lives and be able to tell stories of tension and danger?

Madera County are looking for new search and rescue volunteers, and if you’re eighteen or older then that’s all you need.

You don’t have to have any experience, and successful applicants will go through a 100 hour class and field training course.

You’ll learn incident command, SAR crime scene awareness, land navigation, basic rope rescue, helicopter safety, radio communications, search technique, first aid, tracking, as well as basic survival. All the skills you need to battle whatever the elements throw at you.

The Madera County Sheriffs Search & Rescue Team members are trained and certified to rescue and recover as part of the 4×4 team, dive and swiftwater team, technical rope rescue team, snowmobile team, communication team, medical team, incident command team, OHV team, operation lost & found team, and canine team.

Applications can be picked up at Madera County Sheriff’s main office on 2725 Falcon Drive in Madera, or the substation on 48267 Liberty Drive in Oakhurst. They should be dropped off at the same place to the attention of Sgt. Jim Bernardi.
