FRESNO (KMJ) — Four people have been stabbed on the campus of UC Merced.
The suspect is said to be a student at the college, and was shot dead by police. The alert was spread to students around 8am Wednesday morning.
It stated that a stabbing had been reported in the classroom and office building.
All four people hurt are still conscious.
“Campus is on lockdown, no classes”, says UC Merced’s James Leonard. “Getting to and from campus right now is a challenge anyway so best for people to just avoid the area completely”.
He says students are being advised to stay away.
“This is a…definitely a trying and sad day for the entire campus so I think it’s probably the logical thing to do”.
Around 7,000 people are enrolled at UC Merced.
The campus has been closed for the day and all classes canceled. Police advice people to avoid coming to campus for the rest of the day. Students are advised to check emergency.ucmerced.edu for more information.
