Woman Accused Of Beating Up Veteran Pleads Not Guilty

Shavonna Alexander

FRESNO (KMJ) — The woman accused of beating up an elderly Vietnam veteran outside an auto-parts store in Fresno, has made her first appearance in court.

In an arraignment, Shvonna Alexander pleaded not guilty to the felony charges of attempted robbery and elder abuse.

It’s alleged Alexander attacked the 73 year old at the Autozone on Belmont Avenue, attempted to take his wallet, then followed him into the store to continue the attack. The entire exchange was captured on the store’s security cameras.

In court, Shvonna Alexander looked uncertain and spent most of her time in front of the Judge focused on the floor.

Her attorney did most of the talking on her behalf. After the arraignment, he declined to speak to KMJ due to the work load with other cases awaiting him back in the courtroom.

Alexander is now being held on a $72,000 bail, and could face up to four years behind bars if convicted.

Her pre-preliminary hearing is now scheduled for November 4th, and the preliminary hearing set for November 10th.
