California Cracks Down On Unlicensed Contractors

FRESNO (KMJ) — A total of twelve undercover sting operations have been undertaken in California in the past week, and a total of seventy six people may be facing criminal charges.

It comes after crackdowns including Riverside County, Los Angeles County, San Diego County and Fresno County.

To avoid getting caught out by phony contractors, the Contractors State Licensing Board says you should be wary of them asking for a lot up front.

“Once you pay them the money”, says the board’s Rick Lopes, “what’s to ever say they’re going to come out and do the job for you?”.

“If I could go out and have somebody write me a check for $1000 a day and then not show up and they have no way of finding me. That’s making a pretty good living”.

The board suggest checking a contractor against the licensing information on their website – a link to that can be found clicking here.
