Fresno has a new expanded zoo – with the opening of the 13 acre “African Adventure” exhibit, showing off the hard work of the past years.
Zoo Director Scott Barton says it’s an opportunity to educate children and families in the Central Valley and beyond.
“This is the biggest project the zoo’s ever done – showing animals in one of the greatest exhibits in the country.”
Measure “Z” paid for the expansion, and at the ribbon cutting, board members thanked the Fresno community for backing the effort to make the zoo a “world class” destination.
The menu is expanded, too– with the Kopje Lodge – think fresh deli, gourmet pizza, Angus beef burgers, fresh gourmet coffee and more in the new restaurant.
One zoo angel – a girl named Angel – now grown-up – started the initiative to make the zoo better with a letter she wrote to the fresno bee when she was nine. she learned that the zoo might shut due to lack of funds – she sparked the drive and was there to see thre results.
