FRESNO, CA – It is the beginning of National Fire Prevention Week and from October 4 through October 10, the Fresno Fire Department will be opening its doors to the fire stations throughout Fresno, each fire station will be open to the public from the hours of 10:00am to 5:00pm.
This year’s theme is “Hear the Beep Where You Sleep: Every Bedroom Needs a Working Smoke Alarm”.
Fresno Firefighters will have their doors open to show off our local fire stations as well as educate the public to the importance of having working smoke alarms in homes, especially bedrooms.
When fire crews are out of the station there will by signs on the doors of the station stating their absence.
Having a working smoke alarms in the home cuts the risk of dying in a fire in half. In one-quarter of home fire deaths, smoke alarms were present but did not sound.
NFPA recommends:
-Installing Smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of your home.
-Testing your smoke alarms every month.
-Replacing all smoke alarms in your home every ten years.
-When a smoke alarm sounds, get outside and stay outside.
