FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Mariposa County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to pull over Brian Ballasch on Highway 49 Thursday morning for erratic driving.

After crashing his vehicle into sheriff units, he fired several shots, striking a deputy twice in the face, and once in the upper torso

Public Information Officer Christy Mitchell says, “Our prayers are with the deputy and his family. He is a 10-year veteran of our sheriff’s office. He is a father, a husband, a friend, and a co-worker.”

The deputy underwent surgery, and is now in stable condition.

Ballasch was also struck by gunfire, and has received treatment. He’s been jailed.
