Pot Grow Busted Near Burroughs Elementary School

On Thursday, September 24rd at about 10 a.m., Detectives and POPNET officers from the Southeast Policing District continued Operation School Safety Zone by serving a search warrant at 4788 E. Washington where a backyard marijuana grow was located.

At the residence, officers seized 32 fully matured plants and approximately 3 pounds of processed marijuana, and an outbuilding was also discovered for drying and cloning more plants.  .

Officers arrested 39 year old Samuel Martinez for felony cultivation..

This search warrant adds to 12 warrants which have already been served and to the over 400 plants that have been seized during this two week long operation.

So far, police have seized over 100 pounds of processed marijuana, confiscated two firearms, issued a $50,000 citation and arrested four suspects for felony cultivation.

The operation began on Saturday, September 12th and is committed to keeping neighborhoods and schools safe from the illegal activity associated with the sales and cultivation of marijuana.

Today’s search warrant was located near Burroughs Elementary School and is a reminder that the cultivation and sales of marijuana is illegal and often attracts violence and property thieves into neighborhoods.
