FRESNO (KMJ) — A celebration of the many and varied cultures studying right here in the valley kicks off on Monday.
It’s a week long event all taking place at Fresno State to recognize every one of the unique backgrounds represented there – and they’re doing it through parades, film, coffee, and theatre – and everyone is invited.
The first event will be a ‘Cross Cultural Celebration Parade’ through campus.
“We are asking people to dress in their traditional attire”, says Director of the Cross Cultural Gender Center Doctor Francine Oputa. “We will be marching to the beat of the drums and walking to our speakers platform in front of our library and having a kick off celebration”.
She adds that its an opportunity to showcase the multitude of cultures at Fresno State – and the parade is going to worth coming out to see.
“We expect it to be just beautiful. We will also be carrying flags from different cultural groups so we expect it to be spectacular”.
Those at Fresno State participating in the week long celebration of their heritage are from countries such as Japan, Nigeria, Ghana, Indonesia, and Saudi Arabia.
The events continue throughout the week and they’re free to attend. The full schedule can be found below.
