FRESNO (KMJ) — The parents of a child with autism can now apply for grant funding to help give their children everything they need to flourish. Aid to help children with autism is being offered to Fresno county residents through the Carlos Viera Foundation.
“It provides services, medical necessities, electronic devices, therapy, whatever the families need that are raising children with autism”, says the foundation’s Kelly Kappmeier. “It’s to make sure that they are protected and living healthy lives”.
They’re already been helping families in Merced, Madera, and San Joaquin counties with grants of up to $500 per year available to affected families.
“One out of every 68 children are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. It’s becoming very prevelant and you can go to a normal school classroom of 30 kids and most often you’ll find one person who might have it. It’s increasing every day”.
