1000 kitties…1000!! imagine that.
It’s The Cat House on the Kings rescue and sanctuary right around the corner in Kingsburg – the only one of its kind in the entire United States.
As a child, Lynea Lattanzio just wanted one kitten.
All I ever wanted for my birthday, for Christmas for anything – a kitten, a kitten, a kitten. I don’t know why I was so in need of a kitten and my mom wouldn’t let me have one.” – Lynea Lattanzio, Cat House on the Kings.
Now, she has 1000 on site, from kittens to full grown cats – most are adoptable.
“This was never my intention to have over 1000 cats.”
Lynea left an abusive marriage –no love but there was money that kick-started the Cat House.
“We started this in 1992, it started back then as just a bottle feeding, fostering organization.”
From 96 kitties on 12 acres, and 4,200 square foot home on the Kings River…. now it’s up to 20 houses, heated and cooled on the property.
“Currently, we have 40 employees just to take care of the animals.”
The cats come and go as they like…as do people.
“So, we have people that visit from all over the world and we are probably more well know in Europe and Australia than we are in Fresno – if you were to go to Fresno – and ask where’s the Cat House they wouldn’t know. If you went into Reedley, where we are right next to, they would say no- but if you ask somebody in Great Britain – they know.
Coverage from Animal Planet to National Geographic, The Cat House is famous.
You can like them on facebook or donate, and Lynea uses the publicity for a message: “We’ve got to stop the breeding, there’s no way that anyone can take in all these animals.”
Spay or neuter – it’s that simple. If you can’t afford to donate – spread the word about the Cat House’s low cost and no cost neuters -currently $10 to spay a cat.
