DELANO, Calif. (AP) – Authorities are searching for a gunman who opened fire on a central California prison, wounding a correctional officer.
KBAK-TV reports that multiple shots were fired Monday evening from outside North Kern State Prison in Delano.
Kern County sheriff’s spokesman Ray Pruitt says an officer on prison grounds was struck once in the torso.
Several law enforcement agencies, including a sheriff’s helicopter crew, joined the search for a suspect or suspects.
Pruitt says the officer was not seriously injured. The officer was treated at a hospital and released.
It’s not immediately known what type of weapon was used and no shell casings have been recovered.
