What are the top three religions in California?
According to a recent poll conducted by the Public Religion research Institute, California's top three religions are:
Roman Catholic 29%
Unaffiliated, 27%
Non-white/Non-Hispanic Protestant 9%.
Unaffiliated's are the gray area of religious ambivalence and yet the Unaffiliated's have become the most common group in 13 states.
One might argue the saints, hymns, rules, sin and falderol have taken their toll — and many souls are willing to sit out the dance and worry instead about artisan beer and the technology bubble.
Yes, in the poll, Utah is 56-percent Mormon, but this does not resonate in California, where one in ten non-white, non-Hispanic Protestants is on the spiritual brink of being — unaffiliated.
