Memorial Highway Dedication For Two Fallen CHP Officers

SELMA (KMJ) — The sign to commemorate a section of Highway 99 to two fallen CHP Officers has been unveiled.

A section of the road from Kingsburg to Selma has been renamed the 'Brian M. Law and Juan J. Gonzalez Memorial Highway' – in memory of the two officers. The same section of road where the two officers lost their lives on February 17th 2014.

In was uncovered in at the final part of an emotional ceremony Tuesday afternoon – where officials from CHP, along with other Central Valley Police Chiefs and family spoke about the two fallen Officers – and how they gave their lives to the people of California.

It was a moving event – and the audience included members of both Officer's families. Right at the end – as the sign was being unveiled – Officer Law's father Dennis took the microphone.

"When Jesus got baptized – and then out of the blue his father said 'this is my son – in whom I am well pleased'. Right now I want to echo that – this is my son in whom I am well pleased".

David Dowty – from the California Association of Highway Patrolmen – told the two families during today's ceremony that he was honored to stand alongside them.

"Truly there are no words of clever quotes to sum the loss of Juan and Brian", he said. "Nothing can compensate you for their sacrifice".

CHP Central Division Chief Jim Abrames said the sign on Highway 99 will place in all of our minds what happened a year ago today – and help us all remember their service and dedication.
