FRESNO (KMJ) – He’s not even officially a candidate yet., but Democrats are already attacking former congressman David Valadao.
The former 21st district congressman has opened a committee to explore whether to run against congressman TJ Cox, the man who ousted him in 2018.
But the fact Valadao’s not officially in the race hasn’t stopped the Democrat Congressional Campaign Committee from unleashing a series of online attack ads on him. One of them shows Valadao’s face morphing into President Trump’s.
“Very close race last time, I think the Democrats are very keen on keeping their foothold in that district,” Tellalian said.
That’s KMJ political analyst Professor Brian Tellalian of Reedley College.
Tellalian says it’s clear Democrat strategists believe tying Valadao to Trump will be key.
“They must feel like that was a strategy that worked for them or else they wouldn’t do it,” Tellalian said.
If Valadao makes it official, and they both make the runoff, he and Cox will face off in November of 2020.
