Fresno Police Expecting to Feel the Heat

Chief Jerry Dyer talking recent crime trends, says violent crime in Fresno is down nearly seven percent when compared to this time last year, but that might change.

“Summer months are those times of year when we know we are going to see an increase in violence,” Dyer said.

There have been 17 murders so far in 2019, compared to 14 at this point last year, Dyer says his department is already dealing with increased demand as the mercury rises.

“In our dispatch center in a one week period the calls for service went up by a thousand,” Dyer said.

There were 114 shootings this year compared to 134 last year, that’s a 15-percent decrease.
