FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – California will not be taking away millions from the Future Farmers of America (FFA).
The California Agricultural Teachers Association announced on Friday they received word that Governor Jerry Brown is committed to continuing to provide career technical education funding. FFA, and others, were facing about $15 million in state budget cuts (which was revealed in last week’s budget update). The outcry made him change his mind.
“I think once the Governor’s staff and other relearned of the impact of this transfer it became far less palatable to them,” said The California Agricultural Teachers Association Executive Director Jim Ashwanden. “But he did indicate that he gets it, he’s willing to fund these programs going forward and we think that’s fantastic.”
Ashwanden said more than 60 state legislators signed a letter asking the Governor to keep the funding in place.
