FRESNO (KMJ) — A massive project to move a section of Highway 99 west of Fresno could mean disruption for everyone who drives in that area.
The work will mean the Clinton Avenue overpass will have to be closed off while crews shift the highway underneath to create room for the new high speed rail lines. It’ll be shifted by 100 feet to the west.
“Whether or not you get on or off at the Clinton Avenue overpass, traffic from that area is still going to go either to Ashlan Avenue, to McKinley Avenue, so the traffic that normally goes to Clinton is going to be entering and exiting the freeway at different spots,” explains Caltrans’ Cory Burkarth.
The planned closure date of Clinton Avenue is around April 6th.
“Right now, we anticipate it being a six month closure,” continues Burkarth. “So as long as the weather goes OK, as long as we don’t hit any issues with constructions, six months is as long as we expect.”
There is a meeting scheduled for Tuesday afternoon to give those impacted more information on the closure. It’s on from 4pm until 7pm, at the Verdi Club at 2532 N. Marks Avenue.
Caltrans has issued a map detailing how the work will progress. That can be found clicking here.
