PRATHER, CA (KMJ) – A wild fire south of Prather has burned 2,000 acres and threatened 400 homes. The “Goose Fire” began Saturday afternoon, about 30 miles northeast of Fresno, along Highway 168. It’s now 30% contained. 3 homes have been destroyed by the blaze.
Johnny Miller of Cal Fire says more than 1600 personnel are working on stopping this fire. “It’s going to take a couple days just to get a line around [the fire] and get crews in there to really get a good mop up so there’s no chance for it to escape.” says Miller.
303 people have been evacuated from the area, as have 400-600 animals. The Red Cross has set up an evacuation center at Foothill Middle School in Prather (29147 Auberry Rd). A large animal evacuation center has been set up at Sierra High School in Tollhouse (33326 Lodge Rd.).
